The very first grooming appointment is an introduction to the puppy and the owner to the world of grooming. The puppy with be introduced to a bath, blow drying, nail clipping, and slight trimming.

When should I take my puppy for their first groom?

As soon as your puppy has had their final vaccinations, then it will be safe for them to be around other dogs in the salon. For a puppy their first groom is very important, this is because if they have a bad experience, it may cause trauma for them and make them scared whenever they return to be groomed. At Isabel’s Dog Grooming we provide the necessary care and attention to detail for all new puppies, so we can make sure that they will only have a positive grooming experience.

How long will my puppies first groom take?

For a puppies’ first groom it will take a lot longer than usual (up to 5 hours), this is because we take time for them to get used with the grooming environment. As soon as they feel confident, we begin the grooming process slowly to make sure it won’t scare or stress them.

What is the process for a puppies first groom?

For their first groom we first wash and blow-dry, clean up sensitive areas, trim inside their feet, clip their nails and trim around their face. We don’t clip their body on their first groom as this is easier to scare them. Usually around their third groom they will be ready to start getting their body clipped. We also recommend sending your puppy regularly to get them use to the environment faster.
